History of our college
Chebrole village is an historically important village and its importance lies in “patimatti dibbalu” by which the ancient glory can be envisaged and it is estimated that this village has been in existence for the last 2000 years as per its history. There are altogether 101 temples in Chebrole village itself. There is a ‘Chathrumukha Bramha Lingeswara’ Temple locates in the middle of the town which is considered as the only second temple in all over the India.
The Government Degree College, Chebrole was established to cater the educational needs and aspirations of rural students in and around Chebrole mandal. Most of the students are first generation literates of the family. Government Degree College, Chebrole, Guntur District was established during the academic year 1983-84, vide G.O. Ms. No. 376, Education (J) Department, dated 12.09.1983 of Government of Andhra Pradesh and communicated through Proceedings Rc. No. 221/K1-2/83, dated 13.09.1983 of the Director of Higher Education, Government of Andhra Pradesh, Hyderabad. This college was started on 23-11-1983.In 1983, during beginning of this college, we offered only two courses viz., B.A., (History, Economics and Political Science) and B.Com., (General). We introduced new course B.Com., (Computer Applications) in 2015 and B.Sc., (Chemistry, Botany and Zoology) in 2021.
In the beginning this college was started in the campus of Government Junior College, Chebrole in 1983 and later in 2004 this college was shifted into its present own premises located beside Chebrole Gram Panchayat office, near Police Station, Chebrole, Chebrole mandal, Guntur district.
Government Degree College Chebrole was established in 1.25 acres, equipped with required laboratories, ICT enabled class room, Jawahar Knowledge Centre etc. This Government Degree College, Chebrole was accredited at Grade ‘B’ with CGPA of 2.26points on 4.0 point scale, at its latestaccreditation process by National Assessment and Accreditation Council, Bangalore in September 2016.
This college has completed 40 years of committed service in teaching the rurally located students with full-fledged employability skills with four UG Programs.
In this Government Degree College, Chebrole there are Departments of English, Telugu, Hindi, Commerce, Economics, History, Political Science, Computer applications, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Botany and Zoology and Physical Education.
